Beyond the Search Bar: The TV Guide to Library Research (Infographic)

This infographic draws on familiar digital media experiences of Smart TV navigation to help students move beyond seeing library resources as isolated or interchangeable "websites." It introduces six essential library tools and services (the Online Catalog, Databases, Subject Guides, Librarians, Interlibrary Loan, and Google Scholar) by comparing them to streaming equivalents (e.g. a Smart TV to the online library catalog and databases to streaming platforms). This helps students understand their individual purposes and how they complement each other to meet their information needs.

Learning Outcomes: 

After engaging with this infographic during a library session, students will be able to:

1. Identify the purpose of six key library tools and services. 
2. Explain how library tools complement each other as an ecosystem. 
3. Determine which tool(s) to use for different information needs throughout their research process. 
4. Request support and additional research resources when needed.
