First Year Survival Zines

First Year Survival Zines are part of a new student orientation activity. We give a brief overview of some of our key library services, making sure to cover a few digital and physical resources new students might use. Then we ask students to create their own "First Year Survival Zine." This places students in the position of becoming information creators, and therefore addresses the "Information Creation as a Process" section of the Framework. If time is available, we cover how this form of creation places them into the shoes of information creators and touch on aspects of how and why we might want to share or not share information more broadly. We talk about how this information that they've created might change over time and as they learn and grow in their first year. The zine format allows students to express themselves and demonstrate understanding in a creative form and also gives them something they can refer back to or add on to later on.
