Grounded in culturally responsive pedagogy, this lesson re-imagines "citation chasing" through the familiar lens of storytelling. Leveraging the narrative tradition of informal communication networks (chisme) common in Latino communities, students learn to trace how scholarly ideas originate, evolve, and spread across literature. By drawing an analogy between tracking a story’s chain of transmission and following a citation trail, undergraduate students learn to navigate academic literature as an active, evolving conversation. This is an adaptation of Nessa Vahedian Khezerlou’s “That’s What She Said” lesson plan.
